I recently tried to make payment at Amazon with my GTbank account and I didn't even know that the money in my bank was not enough. I tried making payment using the Naira Mastercard and it appeared to be successful but after a few minutes, I received an email from Amazon that it as not successful and that the payment was declined. I also further received an email from Gtbank notifying me that it was declined because the Naira equivalent of the funds were not sufficient in my bank account.

Gtbank's email told me the value of the transaction in US dollars as well as the Naira equivalent and so I was able to calculate that the exchange rate used was N190.

Well, what this means is that I'll have to either add more funds to my bank account or that I have to use another bank card that had enough funds and so I did the latter and Amazon later accepted the order.

One thing I've noticed is that if one doesn't inform Amazon that the card one is using is a Naira card if the funds are in Naira, he might not be able to see his total bill in Naira using Amazon's exchange rate. Perhaps, if I'd seen the exchange rate, I would have known before hand if I had enough funds in my account to pay the bill.

Anyway, I had to change the card details with another one that had sufficient funds and retried the payment which was successful.

Shopping on Amazon from Nigeria is possible if only one has a US shipping agent
